Kahler’s gift to Nugget — and a moment I’ll never forget.

A few months ago, I met a young boy named Kahler and his mom at Sake a Gogo. Kahler may love animals and cats even more than I do 🐱. We got to talking, and I showed him a picture of Nugget, my gray buddy who inspired so ...much of Sake a Gogo.

Fast forward to National Cat Day last week — Kahler, his mom, and sister returned with the most incredible handmade gift: a small gray bowl shaped like a cat, with his version of Nugget’s face — pink nose and all.

This pure act of kindness completely stopped me in my tracks. It wasn’t just a gift — it was unmistakably from the heart.

Thank you, Megan, for raising such a special soul — and Kahler, for sharing yours so beautifully.  Nugget would be honored…I know I was.

🐾 Why National Cat Day is so Important to me, and The Real Story Behind Sake a Gogo
People ask where my ideas come from—most recently re: Sake a Gogo.  The food, the interiors, the energy, and the imagination that built Louisville’s 2025 Best New Restaurant of the Year, and  has ... earned me 2025 Restaurateur of the Year, actually stems from a unique place. The truth is it all started with one quiet, gray cat named Nugget.
During some of the busiest, most creative, and lonely moments of my life, Nugget was at my side or on my shoulder.  He sat beside me through the long nights, the sketches, and the doubts while I built Sake a Gogo .  He inspired me, and somehow made everything make sense. His spirit became the heartbeat of Sake a Gogo — playful, soulful, and a little mischievous.  I lost Nugget two years ago, and only recently have I learned what it truly meant to have him, and only now am I accepting the role he plays in my life moving forward.   💛 Read the full story and discover how Nugget inspired so many things in my life and, most recently Sake a Gogo.
